The short answer is yes – the IRS can garnish your Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefit if you owe back taxes. But this would likely be something of a last resort to collect back taxes which are long overdue and which you haven’t made an effort to resolve. The good news, however, is that the IRS is limited as to how much of your SSDI benefit they can take to repay what you owe.
