SSA Press Release: 100 Days of Progress

Much has been written in the past few months, most of it portraying the Social Security Administration in a negative light during the first 100 days of the Trump Presidency. However, despite the negative media coverage, a closer examination reveals that considerable progress has been made in a relatively short period to improve the SSA’s efficiency and enhance its ability to process claims. For example, processing changes required by the Social Security Fairness Act have been fast-tracked, and most affected beneficiaries have already received their enhanced payments. Additionally, over $1 billion in cost avoidance opportunities have been identified and are being implemented, thereby improving SSA efficiency. Similarly, workforce optimization opportunities have been implemented to improve customer service. Notably, media reports that numerous SSA offices have been closed are inaccurate. In addition, a modernized telephone system, along with fraud prevention tools, is now being utilized to serve the public better. All of these, and more, are explained in this SSA press release, which can be seen here.
