Stimulus Payment Notice for SS Beneficiaries with Dependents

Social Security beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not file an income tax return have until May 5th to tell the IRS about qualifying dependents to get a timely payment for that benefit. An extra $500 for each qualifying dependent will be added to the stimulus payment, but will only be paid this year if the IRS has that dependent information on file when they process your payment. Otherwise, it may be necessary to wait until next year and file an income tax return for the dependent benefit, as explained in this FOX Carolina article by Jon Randall and Ella Wilkie.
