Suggestions for Reducing Social Security Spending

American Enterprise Institute senior fellow Mark J. Warshawsky, also a former Social Security Administration senior official, yesterday offered opinions on how and where President Trump and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) should focus cost-saving efforts. His post, appearing on the Washington Examiner website, calls for DOGE to review “Biden-era regulations that unnecessarily bloated spending on welfare and disability benefits,” along with pushing for “… modernized information technology, including new digital features, to enhance accuracy and speed and help solve the agency’s service crisis.” His suggestions include calls for simplification and modernization of Social Security Disability rules in areas like occupational requirements and matching to the 21st-century labor market.
