Targeting Social Security (and other Government) Fraud - US Dept. of Justice

We’ve all heard the stories about those who try to defraud the federal government, and Social Security is clearly a target for the multitude of scammers seeking ill-gotten gains. But the U.S. Department of Justice is ever vigilant for these nefarious individuals, as evidenced with the recent appointment of a Special Prosecutor in the US Attorney’s office in Missouri. And this appointment is already reaping rewards, with the indictment of 14 people accused of defrauding the Federal Government of over $1 million via disability fraud, pandemic fraud and the theft of Social Security and other benefits.

This initiative has been funded by the Social Security Administration, and is one of about two dozen new positions with a goal to ferret out SSA and other fraudulent activities, bringing justice to the perpetrators. And, for anyone who has experienced fraudulent activity with their Social Security, disability, or any other federal benefit, this is welcome news. Read all about this new SSA/DOJ initiative in this Press Release by the US Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Missouri.
