The “Big, Beautiful Tax Bill” still needs some attention! - Cato Institute

The House Ways & Means Committee has published it’s “one big beautiful bill” to provide government spending in the next fiscal year. And that bill does, in fact, have some very positive aspects, most notably extending the expiring 2017 tax cuts. But the bill still, in the opinion of The Cato Institute, falls short of delivering pro-growth tax reform. Some of the Trump Administration’s promised tax cuts are included, like no tax on tips or overtime pay, but is still lacking for the much heralded elimination of income tax on Social Security benefits. All of which says the bill, as proposed, provides some positive improvements, but still needs some work to provide long term economic growth.
