The Case for Expanding Social Security

Bernie Sanders is endorsing a plan as part of his platform that would expand Social Security in order to combat what some are calling a looming retirement crisis in America. In contrast to another popular opposing plan, Sanders would see Social Security benefits as well as taxes go up in order to meet the demands of those in retirement. Supporters of this movement claim that cutting benefits would do more harm than good in that it might help the solvency of the system but it would do nothing or may even hurt those in retirement that rely on Social Security as their primary source of income.
