The New Mexico Work and Save Act

The New Mexico Work and Save Act, House Bill 44, allows privately employed and self-employed workers who don’t have employer-based retirement accounts to potentially be provided the ability to contribute to Roth Individual retirement accounts (IRAs) in a savings program overseen by a state-appointed board.  Also, the law establishes an online marketplace where employers wanting to offer their plan can find and compare low-cost retirement savings options.  The marketplace will begin operations by July 1, 2021 and the state-run auto-IRA program will be available by January 1, 2022.
