The offset to COLA increases - The Motley Fool
Nearly 22 million seniors get by on Social Security alone. This makes the annual Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) a mechanism to ensure that Social Security benefits maintain their purchasing power in the face of inflation. The COLA for 2026 was 2.8 percent, which would increase the average benefit of $2,000 by $56 per month. However, there is one cost that offsets much of this increase. What is it?
