The Retirement Savings Conundrum

You’ve no doubt seen many media articles about what is often termed “America’s Retirement Crisis,” a situation where an inordinate number of families are heading into retirement without sufficient financial resources to sustain a comfortable lifestyle. You’ve probably also seen frequent accounts of young workers concerned that Social Security will not be there for them when they reach the point of retirement. Given these scenarios, it’s intriguing that the results of a recent study published by Unum Group do not rank retirement financing assistance anywhere near the top of “most popular employee benefits.” The general topic of “Financial planning resources” is on the most popular list, but it’s only 9th on the list of 15, with the most popular perks being those related to time off from work.
