The Retirement World is Changing

“The retirement world is changing” claims this article by renowned financial expert Mary Beth Franklin, appearing in Investment News. And Ms. Franklin goes on to clearly articulate why retirement planning now isn’t what it used to be. Today, retirees need to plan for a retirement income stream reminiscent of their working years, just coming from different sources - most notably Social Security, investments, pensions and annuities, and even home equity. But retirees today are also much more likely to work, at least part time, after they’ve quit the so-called rat race that was once their main livelihood. All of which means that today’s retirees must approach retirement from a slightly different angle than their predecessors.
