The Social Security Administration Is Going Big on Technology - Newsbreak

On March 7th, 2026, Social Security is launching its new National Scheduling and Workload Systems. These two new systems will change how the field offices handle claims and schedule appointments. When the SSA implements the National Appointment Scheduling Calendar (NASC), you will be able to go online to self-schedule your initial claims appointment. It is designed to help you find an appointment time that works for you.

The National Workload Management (NWLM) program will align with the NASC model and allow SSA field office workers to speak with beneficiaries nationwide, not just in their local office.

Carissa Mosness has written an article about the possible pros and cons of this new technology.  You can read her full article here …

The article mentions using an AI chatbot to get your questions answered at any time of day or night. From personal experience as a Social Security advisor, I can attest that AI is not always accurate. Social Security rules are changing, and those changes are not always reflected in AI. If you have questions about Social Security, I recommend speaking with a Social Security Advisor. You may speak with an AMAC Foundation Accredited Social Security Advisor by calling (888)750-2622. Or email your questions to ssadvisor@amacfoundation.org.

  1. Did social security consider seniors that don’t have a computer or don’t know how to do things on line well I’m one off them how sad I feel and very frustrated

    • Voula:

It’s completely understandable to feel sad and frustrated and you are definitely not alone in facing these challenges. While the Social Security is moving heavily toward a computerized approach for security and efficiency, they are required to provide alternatives for people without computers or internet access.

This is what we recommend handling Social Security needs without using a computer. SSA still has and will always have their national 800 number. You can call 1-800-772-1213 to speak with a representative, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. You can visit a local office to get help with applications, changes, or questions. As always, I recommend you call first to set up an appointment and of course, you can always mail in paperwork or a letter or even drop it off at a local office.

Despite these options, there have been concerns that the shift to online services creates barriers for seniors without internet, and the Social Security Administration is under pressure to improve. If you are having trouble getting through, you can also ask for help from local senior centers, which often have staff to assist with these tasks. Some of these centers occasionally have staff who have been given special contacts at their local SSA offices in order to bypass the long waits to speak with a representative.

I hope this answers your questions and provides some valuable guidance. Please don’t hesitate to contact us again by email or call our office at 1-888-750-2622 during our business hours of Monday-Friday, 9 AM- 5 PM.
