The Social Security disability backlog dilemma

Recent news revealed that the backlog for Social Security disability claims has reached over a million applications, meaning that a lot of disabled workers are waiting an extraordinarily long time to find out if they can get assistance.  Clearly, cases must be closely evaluated to ensure that only the truly disabled receive financial assistance, but waiting as long as two years for a decision – up from less than a year 5 years ago – puts many who are truly needy at risk.  As this staff Editorial at the Texarkana (AR) Gazette laments, some disabled Americans can’t wait on an inefficient disability claims system.  Click here to read more.
