According to Social Security, the average monthly Social Security payment for 2022 is about $1,657 – hardly enough to live on. And who among us wouldn’t want to increase their monthly Social Security benefit? Nearly everyone, of course, would like to get the most they can our of this key program which affects nearly every retired senior, and doing so is actually within your control, but it will require some action. It may sound simple, but one thing you could do is work a little longer to enhance your lifetime earnings record, on which your SS benefit is based. Another thing you have control over is when you claim your benefits, recognizing that the longer you wait to claim the higher your SS check will be.
