Which Medicare Plan is Right for You? - Wall Street Journal

If you’re about to turn 65, you likely have been inundated with solicitations offering you Medicare-related healthcare coverage, each of which may seem attractive as advertised. Keep in mind, however, that what you are seeing is promotional material which highlights the good points of the offered plan, but conveniently omits other factors which may not be quite so good. It’s called “marketing.” And that’s why you should make the effort to compare all of your options when deciding on your healthcare coverage after age 65.

Easier said than done, of course, because there are literally thousands of healthcare plans available nationwide. Even deciding whether to utilize “traditional Medicare” (run by the federal government) or to select an insurer who provides equivalent private coverage is challenging. Fact is, everyone’s situation is a bit different and choosing what is right for you personally requires some analysis, but it is time well spent.
