Maurie Backman reports Social Security benefits will increase in January 2023 by 8.7%. That boosts the average monthly benefit by $146, from $1,681 up to $1,827. Medicare premiums tick down $5.20 per month as well. Still, some seniors may find they have less than they think in the end. Highe rliving costs are one factor, as inflsation persists, even after the increase. Further, income tax will kick in for some who now pass thresholds that were never adjusted for inflation.
