Your Medicare Open Enrollment Checklist - Motley Fool

Medicare’s annual “Open Enrollment Period” is just around the corner, starting on October 15th and running through December 7th. “Open Enrollment” is the time that you can change various aspects of your healthcare coverage, which are limited to this annual fall timing. What can you change? Well, you can switch from one Medicare Advantage plan to another, you can switch form one Prescription Drug plan to another, and you can switch from “original Medicare” to a Medicare Advantage plan, or the reverse – switch from a Medicare Advantage plan to “original Medicare.” There are, of course, some restrictions in each case, but this is the time you should evaluate you existing healthcare coverage to see if it still fits your personal needs. If not, Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period is a window to accomplish that change, as explained in this Motley Fool article by Maurie Backman.

Also, if you’re unsure about how these basics apply to you, or if you have any questions about your individual situation under Social Security or for Medicare enrollment, note that the AMAC Foundation provides a free-to-the-public advisory service to help Americans navigate the complexities of these programs.
