Some Important Things to Know About Social Security

In 2002, then-Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld issued a proclamation that has been referenced repeatedly throughout the years, and it went like this: ““[A]s we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns — the ones we don’t know we don’t know.” The Motley Fool’s  Matthew Frankel, CFP®, in a post on their website, zeroes in on the final point in this statement–the unknown unknowns–by addressing several key Social Security parameters that are often not clearly understood and that can lead to decision that are in some cases less than optimal.
