Changes Incoming to Social Security Benefits

A new budget bill in the House proposes many benefit cuts in the ways of spousal and retirement benefits. One of the biggest changes in the bill is in the form of eliminating benefits being paid out to divorced spouses until the worker actually starts collecting their retirement benefits. This change will affect millions of households. Another change affects those that are currently living on a spouses benefits and letting their own benefits grow until they reach a higher age, in the new system they will have to take both benefits at the same which defaults to paying out the higher payment. This effectively is forcing the beneficiary to lose out on money that they would be accruing over longer period under the current system.
