Social Security Emerges as a Primary Republican Debate Issue

Thursday night’s Republican debate in Florida, while more subdued that previous debates, placed considerable emphasis on an issue key to older Americans…Social Security. There was consistency in the need for corrective action, but there was disparity in the implementation of corrections. The dialog covered, for example, deferred retirement ages, “Means testing” of future benefits, and constraints on COLA calculations.
