Social Security Disability: Delay times need fixing
At a time when the Social Security Administration has been cutting back on employees, the number of disability applications has been rising and as a result there is a huge backlog of applications pending a decision. While about 2/3rds of disability applications are initially rejected within a few months, there are about 1.1 million appealed applications in queue awaiting a decision which is, on average, about two years in the making. And that means that some applicants die even before a decision is rendered.
