For many Americans, that Social Security card probably first issued when they were just youngsters has gotten quite badly tattered or perhaps was even lost. If fears of a long wait at your local Social Security office to get a replacement card has been holding you back, you should know that it is now actually quite easy to get your card replaced, especially if you live in one of the 28 states (plus the District of Columbia) for which online replacement is available. All you need to do is create your personal “My Social Security” online account at www.ssa.gov and you’ll be able to not only request a new card but have access to a myriad of other services which once required a personal visit to your local Social Security office.
