Wasting spending by Social Security spotlighted in Congress

In a strongly worded admonishment of the Social Security Administration (SSA), an Arkansas Congressman’s letter demanded explanations for recently discovered wasteful spending by the SSA.  According to a GAO (General Accounting Office) report, the SSA overpaid disability benefits to the tune of some $20 billion, and then waived another $2.4 billion in over-payment debt. The GAO report revealing these issues was released in 2016, and U.S. Representative French Hill wants to know what the SSA has done since then to fix the problems and reduce such wasteful spending. To put focus on the SSA’s wasteful spending, Rep. Hill awarded them his “Golden Fleece” award, an “honor” he recently resurrected to put a spotlight on excessive and wasteful government spending. The whole story appears in this June 7th edition of The Ripon Advance which provides daily news about goings-on in Washington, D.C.  Click here to read more.
