Scammers now targeting Social Security beneficiaries
In a devious twist to an old scam, criminals are now targeting Social Security recipients in their efforts to relieve you of some of your money. Not long ago, scammers claiming to be from the IRS used their tricks and tactics to dupe about 15,000 people out of $75 million dollars. Now they’ve changed tactics and claim to be from the Social Security Administration, once again trying to trick you into believing that your benefits are in jeopardy and asking for your money to resolve the issue. Social Security (and no other Government agency) makes unsolicited phone calls demanding money to resolve a problem, so the best advice to follow is to hang up, as explained in this CBS New York article by Lisa Rozner.
