Politicians need to “get real” about Social Security reform
It’s surely no secret that Social Security is headed for financial problems for which Congressional action is needed. But the Social Security 2100 Act recently put forward in Congress is, in the opinion of many, a lot of icing without the cake. It’s certainly sweet and politically appetizing to those seeking reelection to propose increasing benefits across the board. But this comes at the expense of the rich and those who are yet too young to vote. Congress needs a dose of reality – instead of continuing to kick the can down the road by proposing feel-good legislation designed to get votes, how about working in a bipartisan fashion to create legislation which addresses the real issues causing Social Security’s woes in the first place.
