Social Security Benefits for Divorced Spouses
Most people are aware that Social Security may provide benefits to a married spouse, even if the spouse never worked outside the home. But many aren’t aware that a divorced spouse may also be eligible for benefits from their ex, provided that certain eligibility requirements are met. Among these are that the marriage must have lasted at least 10 years, you must be at least 62, and you cannot be currently married. But for a divorced single senior some extra SS money from an ex-spouse could make a big difference.
