Another quick primer on stimulus checks for Soc Sec recipients

Social Security recipients WILL get $1,200 per person stimulus payments if their incomes are below $75,000 for singles and $150,000 for married couples.  However, you cannot be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s tax return.  No recipient needs to file a tax return.  The Social Security Administration is working directly with the IRS.  Funds have already been direct deposited as of April 15th for many, so check your bank accounts.  Katie Brockman goes over the simple process in more detail and has a warning about scammers in her piece here.

  1. Here’s a catch 22: I filed taxes for 2019, and I owed nothing. ZERO! when I go to “Get My Payment”, the form asks “Did you receive a Refund?” and below it asks “Did you owe taxes?” You have to choose one or the other…because there is an asterisk on it…After filling in the rest, I ALWAYS get an ERROR message saying I have to choose one or the other. When I do, and I enter 0 as either the payment or the refund, I get another error message. I have tried and tried, but cannot solve it. And, because of the virus, you cannot speak to IRS at all. SOMEONE should have checked the information request BEFORE it went public…
