Many Seniors Plan to Work Longer; or Forever
There’s little doubt that Americans are living longer, with overall average US life expectancy now predicted at nearly 79 years old. And according to the Social Security Administration, seniors of retirement age today (early-mid 60s) can expect to, on average, live to their mid-80s. Of course that’s all good news, but it’s also probably a factor which contributes to another phenomenon – a increasing segment of the senior population plans to work well past the traditional retirement age, and some senior says they plan to never retire fully from working. Reasons for this vary, and the pandemic could be an influencing factor as well, but a recent survey found that about half of those surveyed planned to work at least part time after they reached normal retirement age, and about 12% said they never plan to stop working.
