The COVID pandemic wreaked havoc on many people’s lives and caused financial hardship for millions of Americans. However, according to a recent Seattle Times report, “many people chose to retire early during the pandemic but surprisingly decided to put off taking Social Security benefits.” And recently, the Social Security Administration is reporting “the number of workers applying for Social Security benefits in the 12 months ended September fell five percent from the same period a year earlier -the biggest drop in almost two decades.” So, why the drop, and how will it affect these seniors who chose not to take their Social Security benefits?
