Senate Bill to Help Victims of Social Security Identity Theft - ThinkAdvisor

Identity theft victims who have had their Social Security benefits highjacked by scammers have struggled to find solace or assistance within the Social Security Administration. Stories about about the simple difficulty of getting through to Social Security, much less finding someone who can advocate on the victim’s behalf within the agency. The pandemic, of course, is one reason for recent difficulties, but even before COVID-19 struck, beneficiaries struggled to find help at the SSA if their identity was stolen. And that is exactly what a new Senate bill (S.3684) is designed to alleviate, by requiring the Socials Security Administration to provide a single point of contact to help victims of identity theft.
