No question that age 62 is the most popular age at which to claim Social Security. After all, you’ve contributed to the program over your entire lifetime, so wanting to reap the rewards of those lifetime contributions as soon as possible is understandable. But before you claim, take a deep breath and look at the consequences of claiming so early. After all, you do have an 8 year window to claim and your age when your benefits start determines how much of your earned benefit you’ll get.
