Social Security Says “We’re here for you” - Social Security Administration
According to the Social Security Administration’s most recent blog, “Social Security is here when you’re ready for retirement,” and that is certainly true. Social Security is, after all, the national retirement program which has been providing benefits to eligible seniors since 1940, without missing a single benefit payment in all those 83 years! A pretty impressive record, for sure. Today, about 65 million Americans receive benefits from Social Security every month, and many millions more are poised to do so when they retire. So it’s comforting to know and believe that Social Security will, indeed, be there for you when your ready to hang up your work clothes (despite some media reports you may have seen).
These days, with Social Security offices and staff still struggling to recover from the effects of the pandemic, the online services available at www.ssa.gov will undoubtedly take center stage as you prepare to claim your benefits, or if you need information to help decide when to do so. Most notably, creating your personal “my Social Security” online account will open the door to a plethora of capabilities you can take advantage of without visiting or calling your local office. This Social Security blog article by Dawn Bystry, an Acting Associate Commissioner for the SSA, explains.
Also, if you’re unsure about how these basics apply to you, or if you have any questions about your individual situation under Social Security, note that the AMAC Foundation provides a free-to-the-public advisory service to help Americans navigate the complexities of this program.
