Sometimes Claiming Social Security at 70 Isn’t the Right Choice - Forbes

Most financial planners and Social Security Advisors – myself included – will encourage clients to wait as long a practical to claim Social Security benefits because doing so means a higher monthly amount. Social Security benefits don’t reach maximum until 70 years of age, so waiting until then to get the highest possible amount often makes a great deal of sense, especially for those with high life expectancy, and those who want to make sure their spouse gets the highest possible survivor benefit.
