The Census Bureau predicts by 2050, a quarter of the United States population will be 65 and older. Why is this important? In 2023, 11.2 million Americans age 65 and older were in the labor force (working or actively seeking work), according to the Administration for Community Living, which includes the Administration on Aging, an operating division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. For various reasons, including illness, investment scams, economic conditions, and a lifetime of low-paying jobs without a pension, many seniors have no choice but to keep working to pay the bills.
