COLA Watch 2026…A Slight Bump Up - CNBC.com

With recent indicators showing a slight, but apparently controlled, increase in living costs, pundits are rethinking what the January Social Security cost-of-living adjustment might be. Just a few weeks ago, 2.6% seemed to be the consensus. With the data released for July, though, forecasters now consider 2.7% the possible adjustment. In any event, we still have two more months of data to throw into the mix, and the official number will not be available until mid-October.
