In this Motley Fool article, the author indicates that the most likely case is that the 2026 Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) will be about 2.7%. That would yield only about $54 in additional monthly benefits for the average Social Security recipient (the average SS recipient gets about $2000 per month). Not a large amount of money, considering that inflation is still with us and, unfortunately, the annual COLA increase doesn’t adequately increase our buying power. According to the article, about 85% of retirees have had to change their lifestyle as a result of that loss of buying power.
