Release of the 2026 COLA on October 24th - USA Today

The 2026 cost-of-living adjustment was originally scheduled for October 15th; however, due to the government shutdown continuing, it has been rescheduled for October 24th. Why the delay? Because to calculate the COLA, the Bureau of Labor Statistics must release its Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for September. (The 2026 increase is based on BLS data from the third quarter — July, August, and September — of 2025.) which the BLS has been scheduled for Friday, October 24th.
