The Office of Inspector General’s latest report - ASPPA

The Social Security Administration Office of the Inspector General (OIG) is responsible for protecting taxpayer dollars. Their statutory mission is to prevent and detect fraud, waste, and abuse, and to strengthen the Social Security programs and operations. They do this by conducting independent audits, evaluations, and investigations; searching for and reporting systemic weaknesses in SSA’s programs and operations; and providing recommendations for program, operations, and management improvements.
In their latest semiannual report to Congress, the OIG outlines the activities from April 1, 2025, to September 30, 2025. OIG’s investigative efforts resulted in 332 indictments/criminal informations and 266 convictions, and produced more than $194 million in monetary accomplishments, including court-ordered restitution, recoveries, settlements, judgments, and estimated savings to SSA. John Lekel, writing for the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries, takes a closer look at the latest OIG’s findings. Read Mr. Lekel’s article here…
