Let’s Start the Week Off With Some Myth Debunking - finance.yahoo.com

Over the years, our editorial staff here at the AMAC Foundation has diligently reported on a variety of myths, rumors, misunderstandings, and outright lies that continually circulate in public discourse about Social Security. Some are funny (well, almost), but others can lead to decisions that are damaging to those who misinterpret the rules based on flawed advice. We will, of course, continue to do that from time to time, and we’ll also share insights from other sources. Here’s one today to start the week: this from The Motley Fool’s Christy Bieber, appearing over the weekend on finance.yahoo.com. Ms. Bieber addresses the age-old claim that politicians steal Social Security funds, as well as the issues of “bankruptcy” facing the program, the belief that COLAs are guaranteed, the belief that Social Security benefits aren’t subject to federal income tax, and the misunderstanding about the normal retirement age. Take a moment and check it out…it’s another good refresher.
