A Recurring Question: Will Working After Claiming Increase My Benefits? - AMAC Foundation, Inc.

With an increasing number of retirees electing to remain in the workforce after claiming benefits, the question of what effect the additional earnings will have on benefits has become common. In fact, Investopedia estimates that 40% of claimants continue to work.

This question has become so prevalent here at the AMAC Foundation’s Social Security Advisory Service that we’ve published articles explaining the benefit calculation process and how earnings after claiming are handled. As part of our nationally distributed “Ask Rusty” series, here’s an example of our answer to this question: “I’m Still Working; Why Didn’t I Get a Higher Social Security Benefit?” Check out the response to this question here.

And here’s another piece from our Social Security Report website that offers an explanation, including a review of the Automated Earnings Reappraisal Operation (AERO) and how it works to ensure that additional earnings are evaluated correctly. Check it out here.
