About Using Social Security’s online services - Social Security Administration

There has been a definite trend in recent years to do more “online” – that is, transact your business via the internet using emerging technologies, or “going digital.” The Social Security Administration has, for years, been adopting new online methodologies and encourage beneficiaries to use SSA’s online services. This usually results in faster service from the agency, providing the flexibility to do most SS transactions from the comfort of your own home at any time during the day or night. SSA has also been steadily increasing security methods for online transactions to prevent the ever-present scam artists from accessing your data, thus securing your Social Security benefits. But all of this online capability centers around you first creating your personal “my Social Security” online account at www.ssa.gov/myaccount. Once you have your personal online account established, you will have opened the door to a plethora of SSA abilities, making your access to your personal information easy and smooth, and allowing you to avoid most in-person visits to SSA. The Social Security Administration explains all of this, including what your can do online, in this recent blog.

Nevertheless, Social Security is a complex topic. If you’re unsure about how these basics apply to you, or if you have any questions about your individual situation under Social Security or enrollment in Medicare, note that the AMAC Foundation provides a free-to-the-public advisory service to help Americans navigate the complexities of these programs. All questions are answered quickly, at no charge.  Learn more about it here…
