Are You Really Ready for Retirement? - Morningstar

Suddenly pulling the plug on a decades long working career can be disconcerting at best, and traumatic at worst! So, are you really ready for that? Going from a 40 to 50 hour work week, to suddenly having nothing but time on your hands can leave you wondering if, maybe, you shouldn’t have retired after all. And it’s not just whether you are financially able to afford retirement – your mental health during retirement is important also. And there are ways that you can “test drive” your future retirement, as explained in this Morningstar article. For example, you may be able to cut back your hours and do just a few days per week before actually fully cutting your cord to work. Or, perhaps, taking a long sabbatical from work to see how retirement fits you. Point is, many who go “cold turkey” into retirement may find that they aren’t yet truly ready and need something else to fill those many hours previously spent on work tasks. This Morningstar article by Jessica Hall offers suggestion on how to “test drive” your retirement in advance.
