White House Statement about reducing Medicaid Fraud - The White House

In an effort to clarify (in the face of relentless media reports of potential healthcare cuts to needy Americans) the White House has released a statement about finding fraud, waste and abuse in the nation’s Medicaid program (not to be confused with Medicare). Medicaid is a separate program, jointly administered by each state and the Federal Government, to provide essential healthcare services to needy Americans – those with meager income and few assets. Medicaid should not be confused with Medicare, which is America’s healthcare system for all Americans over age 65.

In this White House statement, the President directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to take action to limit reimbursement to healthcare providers for Medicaid services. Those providers will be limited to the same reimbursement as they get under the Medicare program, rescinding a Biden-era rule which paid healthcare providers three times as much for Medicaid services as they would receive under Medicare.
