Are you recently married and have a new last name? Don't forget to tell Social Security! - Social Security Administration
There are over 2 million marriages in the United States every year and, in most cases, that means one partner's last name may change. Among all of the other things a newly married couple must handle, anyone whose last name changed as a result of their marriage should put changing the name of their Social Security account at the top of their priority list! And, fortunately, that is relatively easy to do - can be done online at your existing "my Social Security" online account at www.ssa.gov/myaccount; or you can contact SSA at 1.800.772.1213 to make an appointment to change your name. All of this is explained in this blog from the Social Security Administration.
And just for your awareness, the same goes for any name change (e.g., adoption).
