SSA Warning: Beware of those who will use your COLA to scam you! - Social Security Administration
Everyone who receives Social Security looks forward each fall to finding out what their Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) to their monthly Social Security payment will be for next year. It’s sort of a “right of passage” for those of us who depend on Social Security to help pay our bills. But SS beneficiaries aren’t the only ones happy when this time of year rolls around.
Those nefarious characters we know as “Scammers” look forward to the annual mid-October COLA announcement as an opportunity to prey on unsuspecting seniors. To counter this, the Social Security Administration has issued a special “Scam Alert” which can be viewed at this link.
SSA advises you to “think scam” if you are contacted by anyone claiming to be from Social Security and suggesting they can (for a fee) help you access your COLA sooner or more conveniently. Don’t fall for it!! Read the SSA’s Scam Alert here.
