Are you stuck in your Medicare Advantage plan? - Los Angeles Times

Seems like Medicare Advantage plans are all the rage these days, with their low or no additional premiums, and with coverage exceeding that provided by “original Medicare” and usually exceeding coverage offered in many Medicare Supplement plans. Fact is, the cost advantage of Medicare Advantage plans is real – but many who subscribe also find that there can be considerable disadvantage to Medicare Advantage. Specifically, most Advantage plans require you to use only doctors within their specific network (which might not include your favorite physician), and many medical procedures require preapproval by the plan (which can conflict with your doctor’s treatment plan). Reality is, Medicare Advantage isn’t for everyone, but once you are in a Medicare Advantage plan, it can be very tricky to get out of Medicare Advantage, as explained in this Los Angeles Times article by Kate Ashford.
