Assistance for Disabled Americans - Investor Times

Statistically, about 1 in every 5 Americans will become disabled for one year or more before they are 65 years of age. A sad but real situation for which, fortunately, assistance is available from various sources, depending on which specific type of disability you have and which type of assistance you qualify for. For example, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is available to workers who can no longer perform substantial gainful activity, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is available to those who are below specific income and asset thresholds, and veterans’ benefits are available to those with a service-related disability. Other types of assistance, including healthcare, are available as well, as discussed in this Investor Times article which offers a comprehensive list of the various types of benefits available to disabled Americans, and includes a section for Frequently Asked Questions about benefits.
