CATO on Social Security
CATO has been harsh on candidates in denial about the current state of Social Security. They have presented a chart on projected spending in the next year comparing Social Security and Defense. These areas of the budget are the top two in expenditures, though Defense will take a distant second to Social Security. In 2008 the spending in these two areas was near identical, this year Social Security will take up twice the budget of Defense.
