Children and Survivors Benefits

Many do not know that survivors benefits extend to their children and not just their spouse. Of course there are certain criteria that they must meet to ensure eligibility. The child must be a dependent and unmarried. The survivors benefits are also calculated differently for children, they are awarded a predetermined lump sum each month that is readjusted yearly for inflation. The benefits for the year of 2016 are the lesser of either $510 per month per child or $1532 per month divided among the eligible children.
