Social Security is, for the most part, pretty good at properly computing your benefits based upon your own personal claiming strategy. But it’s not unheard of that they can make a mistake and cause you to get a larger benefit than you are actually entitled to. But even if the mistake is theirs, you must still pay them back whatever you owe them as a result.
